Profile Of Children Served

The children that are referred to Debra Corn Agency, Inc. are considered to be "difficult to place." These children have been made wards of the court or may be in placement through the juvenile justice system because of their behaviors.

Most of the children have been removed from family situations in which they have been physically and/or sexually abused and/or neglected. Because of their abuse and/or neglect, these children may have emotional problems. Some are also mentally and/or physically disabled as well. Often, these children have a history of rebellious, runaway, or acting out behaviors. This may include the use of alcohol or other drugs.

Referalls are received by the Placement Team Coordinator who determines if the child is appropriate for placement. Once a child is accepted for services, the placement team determines the appropriate placement. Consideration includes distance to the child's biological family if visits are required, number of children already in the home, special needs that must be met through community resources, "goodness of fit", and other factors.

The children ranged in age from infancy to 21. The length of stay varies. Some children will be reunified with their biological family, become available for adoption, become emancipated, go into group homes, or go into a residential family. Foster parents decide wheter or not to accept a child into their home.
